The wait is over. Pensacola’s Smalls Sliders is now open at 5301 N. Davis Highway, marking the first Florida location for the Louisiana-founded burger franchise. Pensacola franchisee Matt Gallagher, and his son, operating partner Matthew Gallagher, have plans to open several more quick-service locations in the Pensacola area.
After seeing the excitement unfold over the miniature, buttery cheeseburgers during a soft opening VIP event on Wednesday night, Matthew knows Pensacola is ready to receive them when they open to the public Thursday morning.
“I think they’re ready for it. I don’t know if we’re ready for it yet,” Matt said with a laugh. “Our staff is well-trained; they’ve had a week of training under their belts. So, we’re ready for it, we’re as ready for it as we can be. But Pensacola, yeah. I think they’re excited for it.”
About two months ago, the bright orange shipping container that serves as the roof of the fast-casual burger restaurant was lowered by crane, creating a spectacle for curious drivers along North Davis Highway making their morning commute. After that, construction moved along quickly to create the quick service restaurant with a drive-thru, walk-up order counter and outdoor dining area canopied by rows of alluring string lights.
