Serious Boating Accident Leads to Felony Arrest Warrant in Escambia

Officers are investigating a serious boating accident involving two vessels, one of which fled the scene, according to the most recent Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) weekly law enforcement report.

According to FWC, the collision occurred when two boats collided, resulting in one of the operators sustaining serious injuries. Instead of stopping to render aid or provide information, the other operator fled the scene without notifying law enforcement or exchanging details with the injured party.

The date of the accident was not noted in the report.

Fortunately, a witness recorded video footage of the incident, capturing the vessel’s registration numbers. FWC officers used this information to identify the operator of the fleeing vessel and interviewed the other occupants on board. Damage to the vessels was also documented during the investigation.

An arrest warrant will be issued for the operator responsible for felony fleeing the scene of a boating accident, a charge which includes causing damages exceeding $2,000 and serious bodily injury.
