Escambia and Santa Rosa County Student of the Week for Sept. 17-20 announced

Congratulations to Pensacola High School’s Teresa Ruiz. Ruiz is this week’s Escambia and Santa Rosa County High School Student of the Week.

Ruiz won with 31.6 percent of the vote. Runner up Nicholas Maum finished in second with 19.64 percent of the vote.

A new week of voting will start on Tuesday, Sept. 24 so make sure to vote!

Pensacola High School – Teresa Ruiz

Teresa Ruiz, 12th grade: Pensacola High School proudly submits Teresa Ruiz for PNJ Student of the Week. A senior and class president for the graduating class of 2025, Teresa exemplifies leadership, dedication, and compassion in all her endeavors. Teresa’s exceptional accomplishments extend far beyond the classroom. As a middle hitter for the varsity volleyball team, she demonstrates athletic prowess and teamwork. Her recent recognition as a Hispanic College Board National Board award winner underscores her academic excellence and commitment to furthering her educational goals. In addition to her academic and athletic achievements, Teresa serves as president of both Bracelets for Backpacks and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Her leadership in these organizations highlights her commitment to community service and faith, as well as her drive to make a positive impact on those around her. “Teresa Ruiz is an excellent leader in all capacities,” said one of her teachers at PHS. “When she is needed to step forward as a commanding leader in times of turmoil – she will. When she needs to step back and serve her classmates and her school – she can. And when she needs to play a part as a teammate – she does.” Teresa’s peers and mentors describe her as kind, considerate, and trustworthy. These qualities, combined with her academic and extracurricular successes, make her a deserving recipient of this recognition.
