Kansas woman claims gun that shot husband accidentally went off during Pensacola vacation

Jacqueline and Brian King were on the typical family vacation. Traveling from Kansas, they and their children stayed at the Fairfield Inn on Via De Luna Drive in Pensacola Beach.

Law enforcement officials say that all came to an end when an argument between the couple became heated and Jacqueline King allegedly grabbed a gun and shot her husband in the chest in front of her daughter.

Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the woman Monday, and the Office of the State Attorney has charged her with the attempted second-degree murder of her husband.

Deputies arrived to the hotel at 10:36 p.m. Monday night and found Brian King “holding his chest with bloody clothes.” Before he was life-flighted to Sacred Heart Hospital, reports show Brian King claimed “he shot himself.”

Jacqueline King’s arrest report notes that she said the shooting “was an accident” when deputies first made contact with her.

“I spoke to the oldest child of Jacqueline King and Brian King, (C.K.) who is 8 years old,” the report says. “(C.K.) stated that she saw Brian King and Jacqueline King fighting in the bathroom and Brian pushed Jacqueline.
