I’m off today…the estimable Jimmy Sengenberg is filling in for me. Happy Veterans Day…and Thank You to all our American veterans. I want to offer my deepest thanks to all American veterans on this Veterans Day including, of course, my parents. My parents were both officers in the United States Navy Medical Corps who spent their careers taking care of sailors and Marines and their families and, while stationed at the National Naval Medical Center (now unfortunately renamed Walter Reed), they took care of members of Congress and their families. Other duty stations included Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in Southern California, Pensacola, Florida; Portsmouth, Virginia; and for my dad, a stint as ship’s surgeon on the aircraft carrier USS John F Kennedy. To all veterans who served, whether for a short time or for a career, whether on overseas deployment or here in the United States, whether you saw combat or not, thank you for your service.
