Escambia County Sheriff’s Office plans to expand Law Enforcement Memorial Plaza

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons wants to make the county’s memorial larger for tours and ceremonies while continuing to honor deputies who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Simmons wants to expand the current Law Enforcement Memorial Plaza to make it a focal point of the sheriff’s office.

The new space will be used as a gathering point and a place where family members can celebrate the lives of their fallen heroes.

“There will be a meeting space or an amphitheater look to it where, when we have tours, the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts, we can meet there,” Simmons said.

Construction crews hope to break ground in December. Simmons said no tax dollars will be used for this expansion.

ECSO partnered with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Foundation. The partnership looks to raise $500,000 to complete the memorial.
