MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Five Escambia County, Florida EMS employees were honored for their roles in providing care to a burn victim during an event to recognize how health care workers make a difference in people’s lives.

The following EMS employees were recognized as “Healers” during the University of South Alabama Health’s “A Night Honoring Healers” on Nov. 7 .
- Reid Jackson – Paramedic Supervisor
- Angela Jackson – Paramedic
- Sarah Fish – Paramedic
- Clifton Wheeler – EMT
- Danielle Hopkins – EMT
The five first responders were honored with a medal draping ceremony after they helped to provide life-saving care to Joie Hellmich, a woman who was found on fire at a gas station in March 2022.
“Within minutes, Escambia County EMS arrived on the scene and began to administer care,” an Escambia County news release said. “After a brief stay at Baptist Hospital, Escambia County EMS transported Hellmich to USA Health University Hospital’s Arnold Luterman Regional Burn Center in Mobile, where she received specialized care for the next seven weeks.”
