Philanthropist, business leader, community advocate are only a few of the titles that describe Sandy Sansing .
He can now add “doctor” to that list.
At fall commencement, University of West Florida President Martha Saunders conferred an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters to Sansing.
A UWF alum, Sansing was also the commencement speaker at the Dec. 10 ceremony held at the Pensacola Bay Center.
“I have never been as shocked and surprised in my life as when I received a phone call in the Cleveland, Ohio, airport from Dr. Saunders asking me to be the speaker and telling me I would be receiving an honorary doctorate degree,” Sansing said.
“I am humbled. I am honored. I am thankful. I am blessed, Dr. Saunders. Thank you and everyone involved.”
In true “Sandy Sansing” self-deprecating humor, he added in the history of UWF and all universities, he is probably the first car salesman to receive the honor.
But according to Saunders and others, the accolade is well deserved. Sansing’s commitment and service to his alma mater is well known.
