This happened at the Polar Bear Plunge.
Participants headed to Paradise Inn Bar and Grille on Pensacola Beach, some in costume, to start the new year off with a dip into the Santa Rosa Sound.
“It’s very refreshing. A great way to start a new year and a new tradition,” Cecil Ortega Hicks said.
“I think after the fact the wind was the really cold part. But it was really good it felt good to do it,” Danielle Barrow said.
With air temperatures in the high 50s and a water temperature of 64 degrees, it made a chilly but fresh start to the new year.
“We like cold plunging and we’d rather do it with everyone else and get the benefits of cold plunging, and just give ourselves another reminder of how to be healthy in the upcoming year,” Aimee Allenback.
Many participants also took the plunge as an opportunity to set goals for the year ahead.
