A Milton, Fla. man was arrested on possession of drug charges Dec. 31, according to the Atmore Police Department.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Jason Phillips, 43, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said at approximately 1:05 a.m. on Tuesday, an APD officer observed a vehicle backed in between two closed buildings on South Main Street. The officer then made contact with the driver, Phillips.
“During the officer’s interaction with Phillips, the officer noted signs that Phillips was possibly impaired and noticed a rifle in the passenger seat,” McMann said. “The officer requested that Phillips exit the vehicle for officer safety reasons, and noticed a second firearm next to the console.”
McMann said Phillips was detained and during a search by the officer, a small amount of a crystal-like substance was discovered that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
