Pensacola Police have closed a portion of North Ninth Avenue Friday following a hit-and-run.
PPD spokesperson Mike Wood said Ninth Avenue between Dunmire Street and Keating Road has closed due to a “serious crash” involving a moped and vehicle.
“Witnesses are reporting that the operator of the moped did not have a helmet on and was riding in a very reckless manner, weaving back and forth in his lane,” Wood said. “He then lost control of the moped and struck the driver’s door of a black sedan, possibly a Toyota.”
Wood said the driver of the sedan initially stopped after the crash, but then fled the scene. According to PPD, investigators do not believe the driver of the sedan was at fault.
The PPD is still searching for the driver. Further information was not released.
This is a developing story. Check back later for more details.
