One Baldwin County campus celebrates ‘Walk and Roll to School’ a day early

FOLEY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Several Baldwin County students will walk to school this week to promote exercise and alternative travel. One school is taking part in the annual “Walk And Roll To School” event a day early.

It was a busy day for kids at Mathis Elementary as they got a little exercise before class started.

Kids, parents, and teachers gathered at the Foley Boys and Girls Club just after dawn for a nearly mile-long walk.

“I hope that they see that they don’t always have to ride vehicles everywhere,” said Assistant Principal Erica Cruthirds. “You know, if it’s possible to, walk (and bike). And of course, most of our kids don’t live within walking distance, hence why we have them dropped off half a mile away from school. But, you know, it’s still the experience.”…
