PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — Dr. Nicholas Hasan Buker, a professor in the Department of Criminology, Criminal Justice, and Legal Studies at the University of Florida, designed a new tool in approaching and organizing the borders of police patrol beats, according to a news release sent to News 5.

Improving police patrol efficiency and strengthening community safety are the primary goals of the project.
The new approach, the Need for Patrol Presence Score, or NPPS, is a data-driven method with a focus on creating more efficient patrol beat borders. This project is funded by the City of Pensacola and is in collaboration with the Pensacola Police Department, the release said.
“This project is a powerful example of how collaborative, applied research can directly inform and improve public safety,” Buker said. “Working alongside the Pensacola Police Department and involving our students in every step gave us the opportunity to develop a practical, data-driven solution while providing students with valuable hands-on experience in real-world criminal justice challenges.”…
