Broken necks, severe injuries prompt boat exclusion zone at Pensacola Beach Air Show

At this year’s Blue Angels Pensacola Beach Air Show, Escambia County Emergency Management has implemented a new vessel exclusion zone to create a 250-yard lane for first responder vessels to respond to incidents and injuries.

Tens of thousands of people from around the country pack into Casino Beach and the surrounding waters to catch a glimpse of the Blue Angels throughout the week, and the clutter of boats means first responders can’t easily respond to the various medical emergencies that happen every year.

“We’re asking everyone not to moor their boat in the vessel exclusion zone,” Escambia Emergency Manager Travis Tompkins said. “Every year, we have injuries and accidents in this mass amount of boats that are back behind Quietwater, and we have a very difficult time responding to something, especially if it’s in the center of that crowd.”…
