Pensacola uninsured residents now can get free, low-cost medications

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — One local hospital is working to provide free and low-cost medicine to patients who can’t afford it.

According to an Ascension Sacred Heart news release, Escambia County has an uninsured rate of 12%, slightly higher than the state rate of 11.9%, and much higher than the national rate of 8%.

For that reason, the hospital teamed up with Dispensary of Hope, an initiative that coordinates with pharmaceutical manufacturers to give out donated medications to those who need it through non-profit pharmacies and clinics across the country, the release said.

“Founded over a century ago, Sacred Heart has always been dedicated to serving our community, regardless of their ability to pay,” said Sacred Heart Pensacola President and CEO Will Condon. “Our partnership with the Dispensary of Hope continues this mission, ensuring that everyone in our community receives the healthcare they need.”…
