Pensacola brings back recycling with $8 monthly fee after 2-year pause

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — After a two-year break due to garbage contamination, the city of Pensacola has reinstated its recycling program to residents wishing to participate.

“We’ve had a lot of requests from the citizens,” Pensacola Sanitation Services Director Darryl Singleton said. “They wanted to bring back recycling. We wanted to bring it back the right way.”

Singleton said his team has been working six days a week to try and keep things running as smoothly as possible.

“Getting the word out, getting everyone used to the program, how it works, explaining the options, like I said, that you could sign up for a can, we’re doing the best we can,” said Singleton. “Well, we’re going to get better. We’re going to try and grow.”…
