Study: Lake Bonny’s post-Milton flooding caused by ‘insufficient’ pump and storm drainage

A study into the cause of Lake Bonny’s severe flooding after Hurricane Milton has confirmed residents’ allegations: The city’s pump and infrastructure are “insufficient” for storm events.

The results of the Lake Bonny Watershead Study by third-party consultant Aecom Technical Services Inc., based out of Tampa, became public on July 31. Aecom’s six-month study found the city’s pump was operated at no more than half its capacity and the lake’s stormwater drainage infrastructure need major improvements to prevent future flooding.
