Woman sentenced for fatal hit-and-run crash in Pensacola

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) – A Florida woman has been sentenced to prison for leaving the scene of a crash that killed a man riding a scooter.

Circuit Court Judge Amy Broderson on Wednesday sentenced Sarah Nowlin of Pensacola to a term of 15 years with a mandatory minimum of four years, the Office of the State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit of Florida announced.

The case stemmed from a hit-and-run crash that happened Jan. 26, 2024, in the 400 block of West Nine Mile Road in Pensacola and claimed the life of Calvin Garlick.

Investigators determined that Nowlin had borrowed a car from a friend and was driving west on West Nine Mile Road with her 8-year-old child when she hit Garlick’s scooter from behind. Nowlin fled the scene, authorities said…
