PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — Many senior citizens in Northwest Florida receive free, hot meals thanks to the Council on Aging of West Florida. But now, that service has been reduced from five days a week to four.

“You know it’s hard because at the end of the week, you cook for 3 days instead of 2. So, I miss the extra day and I think most people that are on the program do,” David Butkiewicz, a resident at Westminster Village, said.
Council on Aging of West Florida has temporarily paused Friday meal service at its 17 dining sites because of an increase in demand for the meals, coupled with limited funding.
“I wish we could get a higher reimbursement rate from the federal funding source, that rate has not changed in decades, while inflation, so what we pay for the meals, has been going up,” Emily Echevarria, Marketing & Communications Director for Council on Aging of West Florida, said…
