Robert Youens Breaks Great Loop Speed Record

On the evening of July 31st, the 71-year-old Robert Youens “crossed his wake” in Pensacola after completing the Great Loop in 19 days, 13 hours and 1 minute with his 16-foot jon boat. This shatters the previous single-engine record for the 6000 mile passage of 19 days, 19 hours and fifty minutes. Along the way, Youens picked up hundreds of thousands of online followers, drew crowds of on-the-water fans wherever he went, and if for a brief and shining moment, united a fractious nation behind a common cause. We had the chance to tear along with Robert at speed across Charleston Harbor and up the ICW, and then interview him while “no waking” up behind the Isle of Palms.
