A Florida woman has been arrested and is now behind bars in East Baton Rouge Parish, accused of stealing over $269,000 in benefits from the Teachers Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL).
ILA Marcea Jacobs, 49, of Pensacola, allegedly continued collecting her deceased mother’s retirement checks for more than a decade, leading to the fraudulent payments going undetected until 2024.
The Arrest and Investigation
The arrest of Jacobs took place on July 28 following a thorough investigation by Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI). Jacobs is the daughter of Loretta Jacobs, a retired Louisiana educator who passed away in December 2011.
Authorities say that Jacobs failed to report her mother’s death and continued receiving retirement checks in her mother’s name. These funds, totaling $269,386.12, were deposited into a Chase Bank account that remained active long after Loretta Jacobs’ passing…
