Santa Rosa sheriff: Watch out for this scam to get your money

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam using one of its deputies’ names.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday morning, the department said a caller has been impersonating Sgt. Cook and claiming that they’re from SCRSO.

The caller then tells the person that they have missed jury duty, failed to appear in court or have an active warrant, and that immediate payment needs to be made to settle the issue, and offers to let the victim pay for a violation or ticket over the phone to avoid arrest, the post said.

The SRCSO reminds people that neither Sgt. Cook, nor anyone else from the sheriff’s office, will ever call to demand payment over the phone. Additionally, the office does not accept payments for fines or violations by phone, gift cards, mobile apps or prepaid debit cards, according to the post…
