Auditor General Looks at PLT refund

The News Journal finally picked up this story today online. They were given the story of the executive director resigning over “disputed expenses” in May and did no follow-up.

Instead, PNJ hosted in July a CivicCon that let the Escambia Children’s Trust present its successes with no mention of the Pensacola Little Theatre, Urban Development Center or other financial issues. The newspaper committed to do a series of articles on the providers. Does today’s story count?

What’s Happening @UWF?

Though she may want Pensacola to look elsewhere, University of West Florida Board of Trustees Chair Rebecca Matthews is finding the community cares about who will be the next UWF president and want a fair, transparent search process.

  • However, Matthews’ track record isn’t good. She only gave the Board of Trustees one option to serve as interim, not the current UWF Provost, who knows its operations, but Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr., who appointed her chair of the Florida Education Foundation three years ago.

Then she “negotiated” giving him the highest salary in UWF history.

Cage Match: Lt. Gov. Jay Collins vs. State Rep. Alex Andrade

Collins travels to California to pick up a wanted truck driver who killed three people in a South Florida traffic accident. Florida had the man, an unregistered immigrant, but released him. The man had already signed his extradition papers and agreed to return to Florida.

  • What made the story even more notable was Florida Politics revealing a text exchange from April where Collins and Andrade agree Gov. DeSantis has Asperger’s.
