The Patriot Tour, a ceremonial passing of one American flag through all 50 states, spinning 15,000 miles and taking 126 days to complete, will ride in town Saturday.
The tour, in which the flag is traditionally transported on the back of a motorcycle, is the high-profile event of Nation of Patriots, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works on a national level to both raise awareness of, and to financially support, the alleviation of the physical, emotional, and economic misfortune that injured veterans and their families are living with every day, according to the group’s website, nationofpatriots.com
Port St. Joe’s Becki Smith, the organization’s Florida Panhandle coordinator, said the tour brings together thousands of people in patriotic ceremonies and fundraising events. “The flag has flown over the Capitol, on fighter jets, naval ships and helicopters,” reads the website. “Those who carry it do so with the highest regard.”…
