PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Two families touched by flesh-eating bacteria are now connected through survival and hope.
Bernard Stewart contracted Vibrio vulnificus in 2019 after swimming at Big Lagoon State Park in Pensacola. He spent weeks in a coma, endured more than 10 surgeries, and spent three and a half months in the hospital. Doctors performed skin grafts to save his leg, and it took him nearly two years to recover.
