Pensacola man sentenced for possession of a loaded firearm

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — A Pensacola man has been sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty to firearm possession charges, according to a Department of Justice news release.

Derek Samuel James Hunter, 37, of Pensacola, was sentenced to 5 years and 3 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

Court records showed that in October 2024, Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies and an ambulance responded to a shooting in Pensacola. Hunter was at the scene and had a loaded semiautomatic handgun.
