Gulf Breeze Zoo welcomes baby rhinoceros

GULF BREEZE, Fla. (WKRG) — There’s a new face at Zoofari Parks in the Gulf Breeze Zoo.

Fairhope police arrest trio accused of stealing merchandise, selling it on social media

According to a release from the park, Khaleesi, the southern white rhinoceros, gave birth to a female calf named Kipenzi on July 24.

Kipenzi is the first second-generation rhino of her kind to be born in the park’s breeding program. She is also the third calf to be born at the zoo as part of Zoofari Park’s commitment to rhino conservation.

“Kipenzi is sassy, spunky, and very curious. She loves her mud wallows, morning zoomies, and running with her mom,” Adrianne Leopard, Gulf Breeze Zoo general curator, said. “Rhino calves typically weigh between 80 and 140 pounds at birth, and Kipenzi already weighs more than 200 pounds. Khaleesi is a phenomenal first-time mom, and it’s truly an honor to be part of this journey.”

Global efforts in conservation of the species have led to a growth of 100 southern white rhinos at the beginning of the 20th century in the wild to around 16,800 today…
