Falcons Battle to Scoreless Draw Against No. 21 West Florida

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men’s soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against No. 21 West Florida on Sunday afternoon, as the Falcons remain undefeated in Gulf South Conference play.

West Florida struck first, firing a pair of shots in the fourth and fifth minute. The Argos continued to push, firing the first shot on goal of the game in the 29th minute, but Andre Etcheverry picked up his first save to keep UWF off the board. Montevallo recorded it first shot of the game in the 33rd minute, as Oscar Vallejo fired a shot that went high. Ian Palma followed that up with a shot that went wide right in the 36th minute. Both teams would fire a shot apiece, with Montevallo’s coming off the foot of Sebastian Flores, but the game remained scoreless at the break.

Montevallo looked to strike first in the second half, earning an early corner kick 11 seconds into the new period. The UWF defense held strong, preventing a Falcon shot attempt in the box. The Argos recorded the first shot of the second half, which went high in the 54th minute. The Falcons earned another corner kick a minute later, but off the set piece, Vallejo would fire a shot that went high. The Argos controlled possession through the next several minutes and recorded the next four shots. Montevallo responded, firing a pair of shots, including Montevallo’s first shot on goal of the contest, which came off the foot of Tomas Prieto in the 67th minute. West Florida responded with shot on goal of its own, but Etcheverry picked up his second save to keep the game scoreless in the 70th minute. The Argos struck again with another shot on goal in the 84th minute, but Etcheverry remained stout in goal…
