Foley police arrest man allegedly linked to woman’s deadly overdose

UPDATE (2:52 p.m.): Cocaine, marijuana, and adderall were all found inside a Foley home after a woman died from an apparent overdose. Now her boyfriend is in custody on drug charges as Foley Police continue a death investigation.

Bags of evidence were removed from the house in the 500 block of East Michigan Avenue on Friday morning. Shortly afterward, Charles “Chip” Hatcher, Jr., 46, was handcuffed and arrested on felony drug charges.

He had driven his girlfriend to Baldwin Health just after 5 a.m. Friday, after waking up to his girlfriend, Ivy Jade McWilliams, 44, unresponsive in bed.

“We got a phone call from the ER saying there is a female deceased at the ER, unknown what all the circumstances were. Early investigation showed there was probably some narcotics usage involved in it,” said Foley Police Sgt. Brandon Perdue.

Investigators say Hatcher and McWilliams had dated on and off. “From the family, they were telling me they were in a dating relationship, it has kind of spanned over 4-5 years,” said Perdue.

At the hospital, investigators say Hatcher admitted to using cocaine, but didn’t know if McWilliams had. Preliminary blood tests were positive for the presence of narcotics in her system, which led to the search of the house on East Michigan Avenue. “There was narcotics evidence located that is why he was arrested on narcotics charges,” said Perdue…
