ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) – A crash between a bicycle and a car claimed the bicyclist’s life early this morning and landed a woman behind bars on charges including DUI manslaughter, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
Authorities said a 51-year-old bicyclist was eastbound on Lillian Highway near Stafford Lane while the 42-year-old driver of a 2015 Honda sedan was westbound, approaching the bicyclist from the front. The FHP said the driver failed to stay in her lane and hit the bicyclist with the right front corner of her car before fleeing along Lillian Highway.
The bicyclist, a resident of Pensacola, was taken to a local trauma center where he was pronounced dead, the FHP said. The victim’s name has not yet been released.
Florida troopers said they were able to identify the Honda from the vehicle identification number on a piece of the front bumper left at the scene. Authorities said the car belonged to Hannah Miatta Williams, also of Pensacola…
