Escambia sheriff stresses gun safety as teen fighting for life after accidental shooting

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons is giving more insight into this past weekend’s accidental shooting that left a 16-year-old critically injured.

He says a 16-year-old was reportedly “playing around” with a 10 millimeter semi-automatic weapon at a party when he accidentally pulled the trigger and shot the other 16-year-old.

The teen who pulled the trigger faces two charges — grand theft of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a minor — but is not charged with the shooting itself…
