Sacred Heart program removes barriers, helps hundreds of at-risk moms and babies thrive

LaTasha McCullers spent the final month and a half or so of her pregnancy in a hospital bed at Ascension Sacred Heart.

McCullers, who suffers from hypertension, delivered her daughter, Nova, at 35 weeks and six days. And despite being early, the little girl weighed 5 pounds, 11 ounces and never spent any time in the NICU.

McCullers was a client in Ascension Sacred Heart’s Maternal Care Program, which she credits with helping her positive pregnancy outcome. The free referral-only program targets underserved, high-risk expectant mothers in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties…
