United Way of Northwest Florida sees 10% surge in food assistance calls since September

PENSACOLA, Fla. — You’ve seen the lines and heard the stories of so many in our community needing help. United Way of Northwest Florida is also hearing those calls.

In fact, the agency’s 2-1-1 resource call center has seen at least a 10% increase in calls since September.

“Most of the calls, about 50% of the calls that are coming in, are actually for food,” United Way of Northwest Florida CEO Laura Gilliam said. “We’ve definitely seen an increase in the call volume, but also an increase in the request for food assistance.”…
