Business owner challenges Pensacola ordinance after misdemeanor warning at MLK Plaza

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza is a walkable median that sits between Chase and Gregory streets downtown. The city of Pensacola considers it a park, and like all city parks, it closes to the public at sunset, but many locals say it’s nothing more than just a concrete island and should stay open.

Last year, Dan Lindemann, owner of A&J mug shop — says he unknowingly broke the law by just crossing the street.

“Probably around 5:30 p.m., I walked across the Martin Luther King Plaza when I was hailed by Officer Roper telling me that I couldn’t be in the park, which was a surprise to me,” Lindemann said…
