Homeless advocate arrested at Pensacola event

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — Pensacola Police have released bodycam video of an exchange between an officer and a homeless advocate that led to an arrest.

The officer, William Roper, approached Michael Kimberl this past Friday night during the “Food Not Bombs” community meal at MLK Plaza Downtown. The event has been a Friday fixture for years.

In the video, Roper tells the organizer that, under a city ordinance, it’s illegal to hold the event in the park after sunset.

“Either you’ve got to figure out not in the park, or you’ve gotta figure out how to get a proper permit, or you need to do it earlier than at sunset,” the officer can be heard saying in the body cam footage. “So, if you can work on that, I’m gonna leave you alone tonight, but try to work on that for me.”…
