Escambia County commissioners spar over customary use of private beachfront properties

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Escambia County commissioners held a heated discussion Thursday morning on a topic that could have major impacts on beach access. The issue is over customary use.

Commissioners are discussing what portions of private property, if any, should be designated for public use. The issue arose from a new law signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2025.
