Charles Henderson grad Quintarries Upshaw receives Golden Apple Award

A Charles Henderson High School graduate is making waves as a teacher in Florida. Quintarries Upshaw was recently awarded the Golden Apple Award for his impact as a teacher and leader in the classroom at Workman Middle School in Pensacola, Fla.

Upshaw, 2009 graduate of CHHS, said his teachers in Troy inspired him to follow in their footsteps as an educator.

“I like to think that my influence for the love of teaching started in the Head Start program with the late great Octavia Jones, and then transitioned upward,” Upshaw said. “I can remember all of my teachers from that moment forward. Troy City Schools taught me how to become passionate about the work that I do. I distinctly remember quite a few teachers who pushed me to become better.”…
