Pensacola’s Street Chefs Unite food festival returns for sixth year

Serving meals to big names like the Blue Angels and Grammy-award-winning artist Chrisette Michele seemed like nothing more than a dream when entrepreneur Ty Jones started Family Ty’s Good Eats as a food truck back in 2009. Now, those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities come around often for Ty, who runs the happening Ensley restaurant at 40 W. Nine Mile Road Unit H alongside his wife, Ursula Jones.

Despite his soul-food restaurant’s success, Ty is generous with his advice and wisdom when others ask him how to do the same, prompting him to create a space where self-made chefs like himself can connect. In 2019, the Street Chefs Unite food festival was launched and will host its sixth event this weekend.

The idea of being a “street chef,” starting with nothing and working your way up to the top, was what inspired the annual Street Chefs Unite food festival, according to Ursula. Ty wanted to gather a group of chefs, not in competition but in collaboration, and provide an opportunity for some to get their start.
