Escambia County halted some renovation work underway at a house on Pensacola Beach over several permitting concerns, including that the garage area was enclosed to create more livable space.
Although a representative of the owner says that was not the intent and efforts are being made to correct the violation, the issue is going before a county magistrate in part because it’s against the law to build livable space in floodplains, below the base flood elevation.
County staff say it’s not a common problem but it’s an issue they try to stay on top of because of the impact it has on property insurance rates…
