Navarre Beach Fire could double fees paid by short-term rental owners

The Navarre Beach Fire District’s decision to reclassify about 1,200 barrier island homes as short-term rental properties and raise their fire assessments accordingly has ignited a protest from those who face steep fee increases.

A public hearing was scheduled for March 10 to consider a resolution to remove the “residential” tag from homes utilized as short-term rentals and instead classify them as “nonresidential,” a category which “may also be referred to as commercial.”

The meeting was postponed and re-scheduled for 4:30 p.m. April 14 after the original meeting was disrupted by angry property owners…
