Mother indicted in death of nonverbal son whose remains were found in trash bag

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA/Gray News) – A grand jury in Florida has indicted a mother on charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

Authorities say the indictment stems from the death of Jalynda Smith’s nonverbal 5-year-old son with autism, whose remains were found in a trash bag along Lillian Highway in early February.

Court documents say the boy was found wrapped in blankets and a towel. An autopsy revealed he weighed only 20 pounds and appeared to be severely malnourished and dehydrated…
