Ex-Navarre Beach fire chief allegedly tests positive for cocaine; interim steps in

NAVARRE BEACH, Fla. (WKRG) — Navarre Beach Fire Chief Daniel Fureigh was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail on April 30 for a probation violation charge, after he tested positive for cocaine use, according to court records.

This is Fureigh’s second offense while chief, as he was arrested back in September for a DUI charge. He was placed on a year-long probation for that offense in February.

Now, Interim Chief Jonathan Kanzigg is stepping into the role temporarily.

“I transitioned to Midway Fire District in 2004, where I rose to the rank of Fire Chief, and I held that position for 16 years,” said Kanzigg.
