PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — Community members are set to gather to honor the life of a three-year-old boy who died in Escambia County in March.

Confusion, low turnout feared in Alabama Primaries

According to a news release, a candlelight vigil will be held for Orlin Hernandez Reyes on Friday, May 22, at 6 p.m. at Graffiti Bridge in Pensacola.

“This vigil is about honoring Orlin, lifting up his loved ones, and reminding one another that no family should have to carry grief alone,” said Kristy, organizer with If Not Us. “We hope the community will join us in showing support, love, and unity.”

Samuel Maldanado Erazo is accused of abusing Reyes, his nephew, to the point of his death. He is charged with felony murder.

Reyes reportedly received 17 strikes to the head, burn marks consistent with heating a lighter and pressing it to the skin, several broken ribs with one detached from the backbone, a transsected pancreas, a broken collarbone, and signs of possible sexual abuse, according to officials with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
