Motorcyclist Critically Hurt After U-Turn In Tioga, Philly

A North Philadelphia motorcyclist is clinging to life after slamming into a utility pole while trying to dodge a car that pulled an illegal U-turn in Tioga on Saturday afternoon, police said. According to investigators, the rider, on a Kawasaki sport bike, was heading southbound through the intersection of 17th Street and Allegheny Avenue around 2 p.m. when a car suddenly attempted the unlawful turn. The motorcyclist swerved to avoid the vehicle and crashed into a pole, suffering injuries described as extremely critical.

Police said the driver who triggered the chain reaction did not stick around to see the damage. The car took off before officers arrived, and detectives are now trying to track down the vehicle and its driver.

Police: Illegal U-Turn Led To High-Speed Crash

Police told NBC10 Philadelphia that the Kawasaki was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed when the unknown car made the illegal U-turn, forcing the rider into an abrupt maneuver that ended with the collision against the pole.

The motorcyclist was rushed to a nearby hospital and remains in extremely critical condition, according to the report. Investigators say the fleeing car is a key piece of the puzzle and are urging anyone who saw the vehicle or the crash to step forward.
