Hospital workers hurt after car crashes into bus in South Philly, police say

At least seven staff members — described as nurses — with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania were injured after a car crashed into a shuttle bus in South Philadelphia early Friday morning, according to investigators.

The crash occurred around 6:40 a.m. at the intersection of Columbus Boulevard and Reed Street, police said. A 33-year-old man was driving a 2023 red Honda Civic Sport southbound on Columbus Boulevard when he crashed into the front driver’s side of a 2019 white Ford shuttle bus that was traveling eastbound on Reed Street, according to investigators.

The impact caused the bus to spin and overturn until it came to rest across Columbus Boulevard and the adjacent Conrail railroad tracks.

Police said 10 staff members with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania were on board the bus at the time of the crash. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small described the passengers as “nurses.”…
