A man riding a black e-bike southbound on Stenton Avenue was killed early Saturday after slamming into the rear of a parked and unoccupied Honda CR-V, according to Philadelphia police. The crash happened around 11:54 p.m. Friday in the 6700 block of Stenton Avenue, and the rider suffered head injuries in the collision.
Medics took the injured man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:53 a.m., according to NBC10 Philadelphia. The Crash Investigation Division is investigating the incident, police said. FOX 29 Philadelphia reported that the man was taken by Medic 16 to Einstein Medical Center and that the crash fell within the jurisdiction of the Philadelphia Police Department’s 14th Police District, which covers Northwest Philadelphia neighborhoods including Mount Airy and West Oak Lane.
A Corridor With a Known Crash History
Stenton Avenue is not an unfamiliar name to city traffic planners. The street is part of Philadelphia’s Vision Zero High Injury Network, the roughly 12% of city streets where 80% of all traffic fatalities and severe injuries occur, per mapping from Vision Zero Philadelphia. Vision Zero’s 2024 annual report also listed Stenton Avenue among corridors targeted for aggressive-driving enforcement, part of a citywide push that produced nearly 2,200 tickets and warnings on major thoroughfares.
Whether vehicle speed or visibility along Stenton Avenue played any role in Friday’s crash remains unclear, and police have not released additional details about the circumstances beyond the location and time of impact.
E-Bike Crashes Have Surged Citywide
The fatality adds to a rapidly growing local trend. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation data reported by the law firm Williams Cedar showed e-bike and e-scooter crashes in Philadelphia jumped 40% between 2024 and 2025, rising from 140 to 197 incidents, with four fatalities and 193 non-fatal injuries recorded last year.
