Fleeing Glassboro Driver Hits E-Bike Rider, Then Slams Into Car in Haddon Township

A 37-year-old Glassboro man led police on a chase through Haddon Township Thursday that ended with him striking an e-bike rider and then slamming head-on into another vehicle, authorities say. The e-bike rider was left with a severe leg laceration that exposed bone, while the driver of the other car suffered a head injury and minor lacerations.

Christopher Belcher was speeding on White Horse Pike and crossing double-yellow lines into oncoming traffic at around 1 p.m. when Audubon and Haddon Heights police officers spotted him, according to court records cited by nj.com. Officers flashed their lights to signal him to stop, but Belcher refused to pull over, continuing to speed away even though he was already driving on a flat tire, the outlet reports.

The chase ended in the area of Cuthbert Boulevard and South Park Drive in Haddon Township, where Belcher struck a man riding an e-bike. Authorities say the impact caused a severe laceration to the man’s left leg, exposing bone. Belcher then kept driving into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by a woman, who sustained a head injury and minor lacerations, officials say.

Belcher was arrested following the crash and taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility. He now faces charges of eluding police, aggravated assault while eluding police, and auto assault causing serious bodily injury, according to authorities. The incident remains under investigation, and the report notes no further details on the conditions of either injured person.
