SEPTA board postpones vote on bus route overhaul

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The SEPTA board has postponed a vote on its comprehensive bus route overhaul .

Over the last two years, SEPTA has held 200 public meetings on its top-to-bottom Bus Revolution plan to redesign its bus route system.

The new network would reduce the number of routes from 125 to 106 and create more routes that run every 15 minutes or less.

The board was originally scheduled to decide on the plan in December. It was moved to Thursday’s agenda but City Councilmember Katherine Gilmore-Richardson asked for another delay.

“I still feel as though we have not had adequate time as members of Philadelphia City Council to adequately engage our constituencies regarding all of the changes — the numerous changes — to this plan.”

The board voted to postpone its decision until a special meeting in two weeks. SEPTA’s Chief Planning and Strategy Officer Jody Holton said SEPTA believes the changes will ultimately be an improvement.

“We’re going to take some time and provide additional information to our elected officials,” Holton said.
