Alleged Pennsylvania Walmart Shoplifter Who Abandoned Newborn While Fleeing Turns Self In: Police

Alganon Muhammad never returned to the store for his 3-month-old daughter, according to authorities

A man accused of stealing from a Philadelphia Walmart and leaving behind his 3-month-old daughter as he fled has turned himself in, according to police.

Alganon Muhammad, 22, entered the store with two other adults and his daughter on Jan. 18 around 11:30 p.m. The group went through the checkout area and was confronted by a security guard who suspected them of shoplifting.

Police say the three adults immediately fled the store, leaving the infant behind.

Muhammad, who turned himself in to the police on Friday, faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, retail theft, criminal conspiracy and recklessly endangering another person, according to WPVI .

Authorities are still investigating the other two adult suspects.

The child was unharmed but taken to a local hospital for observation, then released to her mother. The three people who fled Walmart never returned for the child.
