MONTCLAIR, NJ – A New Jersey appeals court has affirmed the 160-year prison sentence for Khalil Wheeler-Weaver, a convicted serial killer and rapist who was convicted of the murders of three women and an attempted murder, according to published reports.
Prosecutors revealed that Wheeler-Weaver utilized dating apps to entice women into sexual encounters before attacking and strangling them. The survivor of an attempted attack testified during the trial, emphasizing the life-altering impact of the incident.
In 2019, Wheeler-Weaver was found guilty of the murders of Sarah Butler, a 20-year-old Montclair college student; Joanne Brown, a 33-year-old Newark resident; and Robin West, a 19-year-old from Philadelphia, occurring between August and November 2016.
Butler’s body was discovered in Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange in December 2016, leading to Wheeler-Weaver’s identification through a fake profile set up by her friends on social media.
Additionally, Wheeler-Weaver faced charges of attempting to kill a fourth woman, who managed to escape and provided crucial testimony during the trial. He was also convicted of kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, desecration of human remains, and aggravated arson, leading to a cumulative prison sentence of 160 years.
